Bundo kanduang is the name for a mother in a matrilineal family in Minangkabau. Bundo Kanduang has the privilege of being allowed to take part in the public space. This role is related to feminism which seeks to get equal rights between women and men. This article aims to analyze the role of bundo kanduang and its relation to feminism in Minangkabau. This study used a literature research method to obtain information from literature related to bundo kanduang and feminism in Minangkabau. The finding of the research showed bundo kanduang had a more special role than men in Minangkabau customs. Bundo kanduang already has equal rights, in addition to being a mother and wife, but also as a leader who maintains his family, and is allowed to take a wider role in society such as entering the public space, especially in politics. Meanwhile, feminism is an understanding that seeks to get equal rights between women and men, so that women can play an equal role in society with men. The role of bundo kanduang can be attributed to the efforts made by feminists. This means that bundo kanduang is in line with the goal of feminism in achieving gender equality.
